About the Project
The idea behind Smilelog, a prototype mobile application that we developed, is that teachers can prime themselves to be in a pleasant mood through physiological means, by forced smiling.
This idea was conceived from a famous psychological study that activating the muscles involved in a Duchene smile can result in positive emotions, even if the smile is not an authentic one.
Upon launching the app, users will be prompted to tap a button and start smiling for 10 seconds.
The countdown helps to sustain the user’s smile for a more effective priming effect.
By installing such a device outside every classroom, teachers will be required to partake in this ritual of emotional cleansing, so that any prior negative emotions are not carried over to the lesson time.
Future developments may include automatic smile recognition that would trigger the countdown instead of a button.
