NUS Urban Concept Eco Car
NUS Urban Concept Car is a concept eco car jointly developed by the NUS Department of Mechanical Engineering and Design Incubation Centre.
This single-seater concept car aims to address issues of fuel efficiency and environmental impact. Hence, this single rear-wheel drive car is designed to be lighter and runs on Gas-to-Liquid fuel, an alternative energy source. In addition, it is developed with a low rolling resistance allowing it to freewheel without consuming any fuel upon reaching a certain speed.
The exterior form is reminiscent of futuristic pods from science-fiction movies. It has a front that resembles a spearhead that continuously flows throughout the side of the car body meeting at an edge towards the back. This results in reduced aerodynamic drag.
The form of the car breaks away from the conventional proportion of compact urban cars by having the sides extend to conceal the rear wheels resulting in a streamlined profile. Functionally, the extension of the side surfaces minimizes turbulence created from the turning wheels.
NUS Urban Concept Car is developed for the Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2008, ‘UrbanConcept’ category, held at the Nogaro Motor Circuit in France from the 22nd to 24th of May 2008
